Using recycled wood from barns and sheds, along with found objects and handforged metal, I craft each piece one at a time.

I have worked as an artist most of my life and in the 1980's and 1990's I was fortunate to work in a well known art glass studio in Denver, CO. A wonderful and unique time in American craft. After 20 years I decided that it was time to move on and my wife and I moved to a remote setting along the Colorado and New Mexico border. An experience similar to living on a desert island. This is where I opened my own shop, Whistling Bird Designs, and continued developing an eco friendly line of wood carvings and sculpture.

After a 10 year stint in the West's hinterlands we decided to make a move to the area outside of Belfast, Maine with our three dogs and five cats and is where I continue to make my wood carvings, but with some new inspiration from the Maine coast. Using recycled wood from barns and sheds, along with found objects and handforged metal, I craft each piece one at a time. These are my versions of antique paintings, vintage weathervanes, and my theater sets featuring fish, birds, dogs and cats, whales and ships as the actors in my folk art and wood sculptures. I have a whale of a good time making them and hope you enjoy!
